Not the pickled mollusk
& pocked ammonite,
nor the spider’s web
sheathed in amber.
Not the maker, but
its behaviour,
like the clam’s burrowing,
or the worm’s trail.
The aperture
through which
we enter the cadence
of another’s life
& crack the jugular
until it pulses
its blue dark
between our fingers.
